Boat capsize: Woman's body recovered in Buriganga

Fire Service and Civil Defence divers today recovered the body of a woman among the six members of a family who went missing in a boat capsize in Buriganga river in Dhaka city's Sadarghat area last night.

The deceased was identified as Jamshida Begum, 30, a source at the fire service control room told The Daily Star.

The divers recovered the body from the Buriganga river around 11:40am, the source said adding they are continuing the search operation for other missing people, he said.

The boat sank near the Sadarghat Launch Terminal around 10:00pm last night as the launch, 'MV Suravi-7' hit it, police said.

Jamshida’s husband Delwar, 35, and their six-month-old child Zunair and her aunt Shahida are still missing. Shahida's two children -- Meem, 8, and Mahi 6, are also missing since the boat capsized last night.

They were residing in Kamrangirchar area of the city and going to the launch terminal to go to their home in Shariatpur district.

Shahida's husband Shahjalal, 35, managed to swim ashore in the incident, police said.
