2 bodies recovered after boat capsizes in Jamuna

3 others still missing

Bodies of two women have been recovered while three other persons are still missing after a boat capsized in Jamuna River today in Sariakandi upazila of Bogura.

The incident took place around 12:30pm in Pakuria Kuripara area of the upazila, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting police.

Local people and fire service officials recovered the bodies of Johura Begum,30, wife of Yousuf Ali of Jamalpur, and Amena Begum, 55, wife of Monser Ali of Sariakandi upazila, said Subrata Kumar Ghosh, a sub-inspector of Sariakandi Police Station.

The boat carrying over 40 passengers capsized in the river while going to Kalitola Ghat in saria Kandi from Manikdair shoal, the Si said.

Most of the passenger on board the boat managed to swim ashore but five of them including the two deceased women went missing in the incident, the official also said.

On information, fire service officials and local people went to the spot and began a search and rescue operation.

The operation was still going on till filing of this report around 2:00pm.
