Stocks see slight rise
The Dhaka stocks rose nearly 42 points today as investors snapped up banks’ shares that were hit hard during the last few days.
Today, 24 listed banks rose and three remain unchanged out of total 30.
Market analysts said stocks are back to the green as some investors have poured money on bank shares as these looks lucrative price. Index also rose despite most of the stocks in the market dropped, thanks to the high valued banks’ stocks.
The DSEX, the benchmark general index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, rose 0.73 per cent, finishing the day at 5,755.79.
Turnover, another important indicator of the market, also jumped up 23.69 per cent to Tk 718.24 crore, with 13.02 crore shares and mutual fund units changing hands on the DSE.
Of the traded issues, 137 advanced and 166 declined with 42 securities closing unchanged on the premier bourse.
Square Pharmaceuticals dominated the turnover chart with 16.45 lakh shares worth Tk 45.03 crore changing hands, followed by The Monno Ceramics, Khulna Power, Bangladesh Submarine cables and Grameenphone.
ICB AMCL Second NRB was the day’s best performer with 6.02 per cent gains, while Imam Button was the worst loser, shedding 9.18 per cent.
