Unruly ‘racing’ bus hits MP Menon’s car
An unruly bus has crashed into the vehicle of lawmaker Rashed Khan Menon in Dhaka amid rekindled outburst and protests for safer roads.
The bus of Balaka Paribahan hit his car from the left and dragged it for a few yards near Mohakhali police box around 7:30am this morning.
Speaking to The Daily Star, Menon, president of Workers Party of Bangladesh, who was unharmed, said: “The driver was in a racing spree”.
One side of his car was damaged in the accident. “The speed of the bus was low, otherwise serious accident could have taken place,” Menon said.
“It is regrettable that the drivers are still driving this way after serious warnings from police,” Menon, who was a minister just four months ago, added.
The bus was seized and its driver and conductor were held immediately.
The driver did not have a driving license and the vehicle did not have any papers, Md Afjal Hosen, a sub-inspector at Banani Police Station told The Daily Star.
The driver of Menon’s car, Sujon Mia filed a case with Banani Police Station in this regard against Amanullah, 38, the driver of the bus and Dulal, 50, the conductor, he said.
This incident comes just days after a university student was killed at Bashundhara gate, what sparked outrage and mass protests for two days.
