Three people have been detained on charges of assault on a university student at Gawsia market, beside New Market, this afternoon.

According to police, a quarrel ensued between a shop owner and a female customer at Gawsia this afternoon over bargaining of a product.

What could be known, the girl was a student of Jahangirnagar University.

At one stage of the quarrel, the shop owner physically assaulted the university student, said New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atiqul Islam.

Police rushed to the spot and detained three shop employees for questioning, he said; adding that the shop owner has gone into hiding.
