Work for AL-backed candidates: Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today directed grassroots leaders of Awami League's Dhaka city unit to work together for the party-backed candidates in the upcoming Dhaka city corporation elections.  

At a meeting with them at her official Gono Bhaban residence, she introduced formally with the mayoral candidates—Anisul Haque for Dhaka North City Corporation and Sayeed Khokon for Dhaka South City Corporation---to be backed by the AL.  

Hasina, also the president of AL, told the city leaders that they must keep aside all disputes and differences of opinions and work for the candidates to ensure victory in the polls scheduled for April 28, meeting sources told The Daily Star.  

Top leaders of Dhaka city unit and its all 24 thana and 100 wards units and senior central leaders were present at the meeting.   

On February 26, Hasina, also the AL chief, decided to back former FBCCI president Annisul Huq in Dhaka North and Sayeed Khokon, son of late Dhaka mayor Mohammad Hanif, in Dhaka South as mayor candidates.
