No rooftop celebrations on 31st night: DMP
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) must be informed about any indoor programmes organised on the night of December 31 to celebrate the new year whereas no outdoor celebration is allowed.
“No celebrations are allowed even on the rooftops,” DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said while briefing media on security measures ahead of the new year.
Asked if there is any specific threat behind such strict measures, Asaduzzaman answered in negation and said the DMP instructions are only part of its “preventive measures”.
The DMP wants Dhaka dwellers to inform it about any indoor programmes so that no untoward event can take place and law enforcers can provide safety to the people, DMP chief explained.
No reckless driving and no use of crackers will be allowed on the night of the year end, the police chief said.
“Tough measures will be taken against anybody who disobeys these instructions” Asaduzzaman added.
The DMP boss also requested the city dwellers not to stay at Hatirjheel and Dhanmondi Rabindra Sarobar after 8:00 pm on that night.
Dhaka University premises, Gulshan and Baridhara areas will be restricted for the outsiders after 8:00pm.
Check posts will be set up in Gulshan and Baridhara areas. Residents of these areas can enter only after body checking.
