Olama League’s infighting at Press Club, 25 hurt
At least 25 people were injured during infighting between supporters of Awami Olama League at their programme in Dhaka’s Jatiya Press Club today.
The incident took place around 11:00am during a programme to congratulate the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her Champions of the Earth award.
Maulana Mohammad Abul Hanan Sheikh Shariatpuri, general secretary of a faction, alleged that the supporters of Ilias Hossain Bin Helali, president of another faction, attacked them.
Both the groups engaged in a chase and counter-chase, triggering the clash that left at least 25 leaders and activists injured in capital Dhaka’s centre.
Later, law enforcer rushed to the spot and dispersed the clashing people.
Shiblee Noman, assistant commissioner of Romna Zone, told The Daily Star a case was filed with Ramna Police Station in this regard.
Maulana Mohammad Abul Hanan Sheikh Shariatpuri filed the case accusing 50 to 60 people mentioning names of nine including Ilias Hossain Helali.
