Partisan lawmen barrier to fair GCC polls: BNP
BNP has accused the authorities of deputing partisan members of the law enforcement agencies for tomorrow’s Gazipur City Corporation election.
"These partisan policemen are the main barrier to holding a free and fair election,” said Rizvi Ahmed, the party’s senior joint secretary general, at a pre-poll press briefing.
Addressing the press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, he alleged that police picked up 13 campaigners of BNP last night.
"We believe that no one will be able to resist our party's victory if the election is held in a free and fair manner," the BNP leader said.
He alleged that authorities are yet to create a congenial atmosphere in Gazipur and that over 150 BNP activists have been detained so far by the lawmen.
A total of 11 lakh voters are expected to cast their votes in the upcoming polls of 57 general ward councilors and 19 reserve women seats tomorrow.
