Tk 30 lakh sought for Nirob’s family
A rights group filed a writ petition seeking High Court’s order on the government to compensate Tk 30 lakh to the family of Nirob who died after falling into a sewer in Dhaka.
Children’s Charity Foundation (CCF) in the petition also prayed to the court to order the government to submit a list of unsafe manholes in the capital city.
Five-year-old boy Nirob Hossain Ismail died after he fell into the sewer in the capital's Shyampur on Tuesday while playing with other children near his house in Palpara.
Around five hours later, his body was found about a kilometre away, at Shyampur Sena Kalyan Ghat, where the sewer empties into the Buriganga river.
He was whisked off to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Locals alleged that a cover slab had for long been missing at the spot through which Nirob fell down.
