Quota reformist Rashed on 5-day remand
A Dhaka court today placed Muhammad Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, on a five-day remand in an ICT case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Raihan Ul Islam passed the order after Detectives Branch of police produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
Rashed in his defense told the court that his Facebook post was regarding the delay in publishing the gazette notification and he did not make any derogatory remarks about the premier.
Rashed was arrested from the capital's Bhasantek area around 12:30pm yesterday by detectives and was shown arrest in a case filed under controversial Section 57 of ICT Act.
The case statement reads that Rashed went live in Facebook on June 27 and made “derogatory remarks” about the prime minister. Besides, he had been “spreading misleading information to create chaos on the university campus”.
