Rain, water logging result in severe traffic jam in Dhaka
Moderate rain this morning once again inundated many parts of the major roads in Dhaka causing severe traffic congestion.
Traffic movements on Mirpur Road from Dhammondi stretching up to Gabtoli, Mirpur-10 intersection, Mohammadpur Town Hall Kancha Market area, Gulshan, Mohakhali, Kuril Bishwa Road, Airport Road were partially halted and remained very slow, in some of the places, due to water logging.
I managed to reach my workplace in Farmgate at 11:00am after leaving my home in Mohammadpur at 8:45am, an office-goer told The Daily Star.
Commuters from Uttara faced severe traffic jam on Airport Road after the morning rain.
Meanwhile, a 54 millimetres (mm) of rainfall took place from 6:00am to 9:00am, according to the Met office today.
Adjacent districts of Dhaka also witnessed moderate rainfall; Madaripur received 39 mm of rainfall while Gopalganj 9 mm and Tangail 8 mm in the three-hour-long bout of rains, according the Met office control room.
In the last 24 hours Met office recorded 18 mm rainfall across the country and the control room said the rain may persist for the next two days.
The low over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining area now lies over Gujarat and adjoining area. The axis of monsoon trough runs through the centre of the low, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, thence northeastwards to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends to North Bay. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay.
Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna Barisal, Chittagong & Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country.
