A three-year-old boy was rescued in a critical condition in the capital's Gabtoli Bus Terminal area on Tuesday night.

Being informed by locals, police rescued the boy in an unconscious state around 9:30pm and rushed him to a local hospital, said Selimuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Darussalam Police Station. 

The boy, who was also suffering from fever, was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early yesterday, said the OC.

This correspondent visited the boy at DMCH yesterday. The three-year old was still unconscious.

“The boy's condition is critical. He needs to get admitted to Paediatric ICU, but unfortunately we do not have any such facilities for children of his age,” said a physician of the ward.

The boy has severe fever, breathing problem and convulsion, she added.

Until his parents are found, child rights organisation, Local Education and Economic Development Organisation (LEEDO), will take care of the boy, said OC Selimuzzaman.

Muhammad Ali Jony, coordinator of LEEDO, said after the boy gets well, he will be taken to a shelter home at Bosila in Mohammadpur where he will stay for six months.

If his parents are still not found, he will be shifted to another home, he said. 

Kidnappers might have abandoned the boy in the bus stand area realising that he was sick, said the OC.
