Toddler killed being hit by truck in Dhaka
A one-year-old boy was killed as a truck hit his mother while crossing a road with the child at Signboard area of Dhaka’s Jatrabari today.
The child’s mother, Moushumi Akter, 25, was injured in the accident around 5:00am, said Tuton Mia, the child’s uncle and a witness of the incident.
Tuton said he went to send off Moushumi and her one-year-old son Hridoy on board a bus from Signboard area of Jatrabari this morning.
When they were crossing the road, a bus and a truck were trying to overtake each other and the truck hit Moushumi and threw her to the roadside, he said.
Hridoy, who was on his mother’s lap, also fell to the roadside, the witness also said.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared Hridoy dead around 6:30am.
Moushumi is now being treated at Mirpur Dental Hospital.
Moushumi and her son came to visit her brother Md Halim, who works at a garment factory in Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) industrial area in Narayanganj, 12 days earlier. They were returning to their home in Kendua of Netrokona today, Tutan said.
Mofiz Uddin, a sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station, confirmed the incident.
