140 BSMMU doctors reinstated
The Supreme Court today directed the authorities concerned to reinstate 140 doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) whose appointment process was declared illegal by the High Court.
The court, however, said the tenure in which the doctors were not in service will be considered as their leave without benefit.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha delivered the verdict in response to five appeals and two leave to appeal petitions filed by the doctors challenging the High Court verdict.
In 2010, the High Court had ruled that the appointment process of these doctors were illegal because of some anomalies.
Later, on September 4 last year, the Supreme Court allowed the doctors to move an appeal petition against the verdict of the High Court.
