SC upholds HC order granting bail to Milan
The Supreme Court today upheld the High Court orders that granted bail to former BNP state minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan in eight separate criminal cases filed in Chandpur.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed “no order” on eight separate petitions filed by the government seeking stay on the HC orders.
The apex court chamber judge’s “no order” means that the HC orders that granted bail to Ehsanul Haque Milan will remain upheld, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah told The Daily Star.
He, however, said Milan cannot get released from jail following the SC order as he is arrested in an attempt to murder case.
DAG Bashir Ullah said following separate bail petitions filed by Milan the HC on December 12 last year granted bail to him in eight cases filed with Kachua Police Station in Chandpur on charges of extortion, vandalism and attempt to murder in 2006.
Milan was arrested on November 23 last year in one of the cases and later on he was shown arrested in seven other cases, he added.
Additional Attorney General Momtaz Uddin Fakir appeared for the government, but no lawyer was present for Milan.
