Teenager ‘gang-raped’ in Dhaka

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside a school in Jurain area of Dhaka on the evening of April 28.

Police detained Swapan, a night guard of Jurain Adarsha High School, following a case lodged with Kadamtali Police Station on May 1 in this connection, Kazi Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station told The Daily Star.

Earlier on April 28, a group of youth led by one Shaon picked up the victim when she was returning her Lakshmi Bazar home in Dhaka from her in-law's house, the OC said.

The victim fled her in-law’s house as she had a conjugal conflict on the same day and called Shaon, finding no other place to go. 

Responding to her call, Shaon along with a gang met her and took her inside the school.

At one stage, Shaon and his eight local associates identified as Munna, Jalil, Swapan, Mishal, Masud, Sajib and Tanjil alias Tanju raped her, the OC said quoting the first information report (FIR) of the case.

She was dumped in Rishipara area in critical condition from where she went to her maternal uncle’s house.

She was later admitted to One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where her medical test was performed.

Shaon is shown mastermind of the gang rape in the FIR, the OC said.
