Vegetable price soars in Ctg
Price of vegetables in Chittagong city's kitchen markets have soared in the last few days.
Vegetable traders said the main reason behind the price hike is the incessant rainfall in the city that led to a shortage of supply.
This correspondent visited different kitchen markets in No-2 Gate and Kazir Dewry areas and Karnaphuli Complex Market in Chittagong and found more or less the same price for vegetables in all the markets.
Md Sahabuddin, a vegetable trader at Karnaphuli Complex Market, said for most vegetables, prices have been increased by Tk 10 due to a shortage of supply.
However, price of different kinds of meat remained the same. Per kilogramme onion was sold between Tk 35 and Tk 40, but now the price is between Tk 55 to Tk 65.
Mohammad Ibrahim of Khadija Traders at Karnaphuli Complex Market said the incessant rain led to the shortage of supply. Due to heavy rainfall, goods did not arrive on time, he said.
Mohammad Kashem, a rickshaw puller, questioned how he would be able to feed his family if the prices do not go down.
