WDB riddled in ambiguity, influence of power: TIB

The Water Development Board is riddled in ambiguity in its actions and very prone to influence of power, Transparency International Bangladesh said today.

In a press conference arranged at its Dhanmondi office, the anti-graft watchdog presented a report highlighting irregularities in the Water Development Board.

In four out of six cases, it found WDB projects being influenced by government officials, ruling party leaders and local lawmakers to take the project in their favour.

The anti-graft watchdog also found lack of accountability in the WDB’s working system.

“The lack of good governance in overall is very evident,” said Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director for Transparency International Bangladesh.

He lauded the government’s improvement in some cases, but underscored that the path towards good governance is “still a long way to go”.
