Woman stabbed dead for resisting rape attempt
The wife of an expatriate Bangladeshi was stabbed to death reportedly after she resisted a rape attempt by two youths at Fatickchari upazila of Chattogram district early today.
The deceased was identified as Mamoni Dey, 24, wife of Rupon Kanti Dey, an expatriate living in United Arab Emirate (UAE), who hails from Mohanagar village in the upazila, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting police.
Meanwhile, police arrested two suspects—Sunny Dey, 20, and Toyon Dey, 21, -- in connection with the murder, said Sheikh Abdullah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhujpur Police Station.
“The two entered our bedroom where my wife was sleeping around 12:30am and attempted to rape her,” Rupon told The Daily Star over the phone, quoting his family.
“Mamoni cried for help resisting the rape attempt; she was stabbed from behind when she tried to go to the porch where my father sleeps,” he said.
Mamoni died on the spot and his father sustained critical injuries as the criminals also stabbed him, he said.
His mother and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter survived the assault, Rupon said adding that and his father has been admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
Later, police went to the spot and recovered the body. The law enforcers also conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo, the OC further said.
