Writ seeks arrest of sexual assaulters in 24hrs
The High Court was stimulated today for an order on the government to arrest assaulters on women at Dhaka University within 24 hours.
The writ petition, filed by a Supreme Court lawyer, also sought order on the government to form a judicial probe to investigate the incident.
On April 14, during the gala celebrations of Bangla new year at Dhaka University, a rowdy group molested about 20 women near TSC area.
The incident sparked a wave of outrage from all quarters and protests have been waging at Dhaka University demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
Today, Eunus Ali Akond moved the High Court with the writ petitions seeking its order on the government to arrest the culprits and form a judicial probe into the incident.
He also urged the court to order the government to form a special tribunal to try and punish the perpetrators who carried out the assault on women at Dhaka University.
A HC bench may take the petition for hearing tomorrow, Eunus told The Daily Star.
