Coronavirus: Ctg engineer held for spreading rumour on Facebook

Police arrested an engineer in Boalkhali upazila under Chattogram last night for spreading rumour over coronavirus on Facebook.

Abu Bakar Md Reza (33), a deputy assistant engineer of Satkania upazila municipality, was arrested in Gomdandi area after he posted a misleading status on his Facebook profile over coronavirus, said Md Neyamat Ullah, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali Police Station.

In his post, Reza stated that "one found with coronavirus in Boalkhali" on Friday noon, the OC told our Chattogram correspondent.

Though he removed the status later, people started sharing its screenshots on the social media platform and soon it went viral, the police official said.

Boalkhali police arrested him for spreading rumour and panic thorough his Facebook post, OC said, adding that a case is under process in this connection.
