100 fortune seekers rescued in Bay
Bangladesh Coast Guard members seized a Malaysia-bound trawler with over 100 Bangladeshi and Rohingya people near the St. Martin’s south-west channel in the Bay of Bangle this afternoon.
There were 22 Rohingyas in the trawler while the rest were Bangladeshis, Coast Guard Teknaf Contingent Commander Kazi Fariduzzaman told The Daily Star.
He added the rescue was made around 4:00pm, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
One Nurul Islam Bhutto, who was among the migrants, called his brother over phone on Monday seeking help for their returning back.
Later, Nurul’s brother first informed local journalists about the matter and sought their help.
After being informed by the local journalists, the coast guard members conducted a drive in the Bay of Bengal and made the rescue this afternoon, Kazi Fariduzzaman said.
