10,528 infected with Dengue in 7 months: DGHS
Dengue took a severe turn this year with a total of 10,528 people getting infected with the mosquito-borne disease so far.
This is the record number of patients being infected with the disease in the last 18 years in Bangladesh, according to the data of Directorate General of Health Service.
Around 683 people infected with Dengue were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours, which is also the highest number of Dengue related cases in a day, the data of the DGHS showed.
In Bangladesh, the number of dengue cases has increased by around nine times in the last 10 years, it said.
In 2008, there were only 1,153 identified dengue patients in the country with no casualty reported.
Last year, the number rose to 10,148 with 26 deaths.
A total of 295 dengue cases were reported in June last year while the number rose to almost five times to 1,753 for the same month this year.
In July last year, the number was 946, whereas a total of 7,513 dengue cases have already been reported in July this year until yesterday.
