12 students hurt in Mirpur cop firing
At least 12 students of Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital in Mirpur were hurt tonight as police fired rubber bullets to disperse their road blockade protesting beating of a fellow by local youths.
The injured students were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 12:30am, Sentu Das, assistant sub-inspector of DMCH police camp, told The Daily Star.
The students blocked the main road by the hospital in Mirpur 13 around 11:00pm protesting the beating of their fellow student by a group of local youths in the evening, Idris Ali, duty officer of Kafrul Police Station, told The Daily Star.
Law enforcers fired rubber bullets at the agitating students when the protesters started throwing brickbats at them, the duty officer said.
The group of local youths beat up a student of the college around 8:00pm, an injured student said.
Earlier, several local youths were barred from playing on the campus on the same day, he added.
