2 AL men killed in Madaripur clash

Two ruling party men were killed in a clash between two groups of people over establishing supremacy in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur this morning.

The deceased are Arshed Matabbar, 35, organising secretary of upazila Jubo League, and Shahjahan Darani, 34, an activist of the upazila unit of Awami League.

The clash took place around 6:00am between supporters of Ibrahim Shikder and Atik Matabbar of the locality over establishing their dominance in Kutubpur area in the upazila, according to police.

Several gunshots were exchanged during the clash that left Arshed and Shahjahan dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the bodies.

Shikder and Matabbar had a long standing feud over establishing supremacy in the area.

Abdus Sattar, officer-in-charge of Shibchar Police Station, confirmed the incident.
