2 children killed in Savar explosion
Two children were killed and one was injured in a “powerful” explosion in Savar upazila on the outskirts of Dhaka this evening.
The explosion took place around 6:00pm, Rasel Sheikh, senior assistant superintendent of police at Savar Model Police Station, told our local correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Md Hannan alias Hridoy, 11, and Shuvo Rahman, 13.
Both of them were class one students of a madrasa.
On the other hand, Salman, 8, sustained splinter injuries in his left leg.
The senior ASP suspected that it was a grenade or powerful explosive.
However, the cause of the explosion cannot be confirmed without autopsy reports of the bodies, Rasel Sheikh said.
The incident happened in an open field where children usually play in the afternoon.
Police said one of the children died on the spot, while the other succumbed to his injuries on the way to a local hospital.
On information, police recovered the bodies, Rasel Sheikh informed, adding that the bodies will be sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
