2 ex-Jamaat MPs among 13 remanded
A Dhaka court today placed 13 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists including two former lawmakers on a three-day remand in a case filed over bomb recovery.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lutfar Rahman Shishir passed the order after the Detective Branch of Police produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
Police arrested former Jamaat lawmakers Mia Golam Parwar and Prof Mujibur Rahman and 11 other leaders and activists of the party at a flat in Mirpur yesterday afternoon and recovered 20 crude bombs from their possession.
Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat Mujibur (former MP of Rajshahi-1) is accused in 45 cases and Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Parwar (former MP of Khulna-5) is accused in 12, claimed police.
The detectives told the court that the arrestees were hatching a conspiracy by holding a meeting to carry out subversive activities and they need to be remanded to find out reasons behind their meeting.
On the other hand, defence lawyers sought bail to their clients alleging the authorities of suing them only to harass the Jamaat leaders.
