27 deer rescued in Narayanganj
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rescued 27 deer, locally known as Chitra Horin or Spotted Deer, in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj this afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, the Rab members made the rescue raiding two houses in Taltola area, said Lt Col Anwar Latif Khan, commanding officer of Rab-11.
During the three-hour raid till 6:00pm, the elite force found 21 deer at the house of Masum Sheikh, and six others at one Imdad Hossain’s residence, said Alet Uddin, company commander of Rab-11.
Following the recovery, a mobile court which accompanied the Rab team, fined Tk 2 lakh to a brother of Masum in his absence. The court also fined Tk 1.50 lakh to Imdad.
“Masum and Imdad collected the deer from Sundarbans illegally aiming to sell these,” Alet Uddin told The Daily Star.
Later, the deer were handed over to the forest department officials in Narayanganj.
