3 held for ‘attacking custom officials, snatching’
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested three persons for their alleged involvement with assaulting custom officials and snatching goods from Cargo village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on August 10.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-1 arrested the three -- Badrul Alam Shyamal, 37, Fakhrul Alam Prince, 33, and Md Asifuzzaman Papon, 33, -- from Mirpur area last night, according to a Rab press release.
Custom officials locked the gate of the cargo godown when a gang of at least 20 tried to take away 15 cartons containing valuables worth Tk 50 crore without submitting any valid documents.
Being resisted, they snatched the key, opened the gate and picked up 12 cartons, the release said.
Before leaving the place, they physically assaulted the officials present there and gave life threat to them, it said.
Assistant Customs Officer Shahjahan Ali, one of the victims, filed a case against eight including Shyamal and Prince on the following day.
