3 schoolboys drown in Matamuhuri river

At least three schoolboys drowned and two others went missing in Matamuhuri river in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Aminul Islam Emshad, his brother Aftab Hossain Mehrab and Farhan-Bin-Shawkat, all of them students of Grammar School in the upazila, our Cox’s Bazar staff correspondent reports quoting Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station.

The two other boys still remaining missing are Punya Bhattacharya and Sayeed Zawad Arbeeh, the OC said.

The boys were taking a dip in the river around 4:00pm after playing a football match when strong current in the river washed them away, he said.

The incident took place near Matamuhuri Bridge on Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong Highway.

Divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence were continuing the search and rescue operation till filing the report at 8:15pm.
