30 workers hurt in Jessore warehouse-collapse
At least 30 workers were injured as the roof of an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Chaugacha upazila of Jessore this afternoon.
A total of 18 workers was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex and rest of them took primary treatment, our Jhenidah correspondent reports.
Among the injured were Mukul, 25, Al Amin, 22, Haripada, 20, Krishna, 45, Selim 26, Abul Kashem 23, Joney. 30, Iman Ali, 26, Shafi, 21, Iqbal, 27, Majnu, 27, Abdur Rauf, 25, Rafiqul, 27, Abdul 27, Azizur 32, Tabibar, 26, Anisur 34, and Kanai 24 – all labours.
The roof collapsed around 5:00pm. The site engineer Tariqul Islam and his assistant managed to flee the spot and they could not be found. Their phones were found switched off.
The warehouse was designed to have an approximate capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes of food grains. It was one of such six constructions, which are being developed under the prime minister's special project.
