4 cases filed over ‘Sonali Bank robbery attempt’
Four cases have been filed in connection with yesterday’s incident when Rapid Action Battalion “foiled a Sonali bank branch robbery attempt” at Dhamrai in Dhaka that left an alleged robber dead.
Senior Warrant Officer Md Bakhtiar Uddin of Rab-4 filed the cases – one for robbery, one each for possessing firearms and drugs while another over unnatural death – with Dhamrai Police Station last night, reports our Savar correspondent quoting Rizaul Haque, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Six people have been sued in the cases except the one filed over unnatural death, Sub-Inspector of the same police station Suprobhat told The Daily Star.
SI Md Nizamuddin will investigate the cases, the police official said.
Mohammad Masuk, 45, alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with Rab members as the special force claimed to have foiled a robbery attempt at the Sonali Bank branch yesterday.
Rab arrested five others at a flat on the second floor of Hazi Riaz Uddin Plaza. The state-owned bank's branch is located on the first floor of the building.
According to Rab and the building owner, the “gang members” had rented the flat two months ago. They also claimed to be garment factory workers.
