4 die after inhaling toxic gas in Chuadanga

Four people died after inhaling toxic gas of a septic tank at Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga this afternoon.

The deceased are Hasem Ali, 51, his son Sujon Ali, 23, Jalal Uddin, 24, and Jewel Hossain, 33, all day labourers.

The day labourers were hired by Rustom Ali, an engineer of a household company in Dhaka, to check the septic tank of his newly constructed building, Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Jibannagar Police Station, told our Kushtia correspondent.

Hashem Ali went inside the tank first. As he was not responding, his son Sujon entered the tank to check.

But Sujon also stopped responding, which prompted both Jalal and Jewel to enter the septic tank, the OC said.

On information from the locals, a fire brigade team from Jibannagar upazila rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

The incident took place around 4:30pm in Baidyanathpur village, the OC added.
