4 die in boat capsize at Hatiya

Four fishermen drowned during a boat capsize that took place due to rough winds in Noakhali’s Hatiya upazila early today.

The deceased were identified as Kamrul, 18, Rashed, 25, Abul Hossain, 16, and Rakib, 16, all from the upazila, our Noakhali correspondent reports.

Six fishermen anchored their boat last night after fishing in the Meghna River and went to sleep, said Abdul Mojid, officer-in-charge of Hatia Police Station.

Around dawn, rough winds and tides capsized the boat. Two of the fishermen managed to swim ashore, but the four were missing.

This morning, police with the help of local fishermen recovered the boat and dead bodies of the four, the OC said.

Chandani Union Morshed Bazar police camp’s Sub-Inspector Md Hanif said the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families.
