4 JMB men on 15-day remand in Ctg
A Chittagong court today granted 15 days remand for four activists of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in three cases filed under arms, explosive and anti-terrorism acts.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abdul Kader passed the order after detectives produced the militants before the court with a 10-day remand prayer for each of them in every case, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Earlier in the day, police filed the cases in connection with Monday's detention of five JMB men and recovery of explosives, firearms and ammunition from their possession.
However, one of the five detainees, identified as a commander and chief of the explosive division of JMB,Taufique-ul-Islam alias Javed alias Rana, was killed in a “grenade explosion” early yesterday.
The other four detaineesare Bulbul Ahmed alias Fuad alias Roki, Md Sujan alias Babu, Md Shajahan alias Kajal and Mahbubur Rahman alias Khokan.
Sub-Inspector Aftab Hossain of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police(CMP) lodged the cases with Karnaphuli Police Station around 3:00am under Arms Act 1878, Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 and Explosive Substances Act1908, police said.
Besides, two other fugitive JMB men – Fardin and Gias– were included as accused in two cases filed under Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 and Explosive Substances Act1908, said SI Aftab.
The duo was included in the cases as the four detainees mentioned their names in primary interrogation.
Meanwhile, Md Sujan alias Babuwas also shown arrested in the case filed for killing a Pir (religious instructor) Rahamat Ullah, popularly known as Lyangta Fakir, and his assistant Khadem Abdul Kader inside a shrine at Bangla Bazar on September 4.
Babu was taken to the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Jhalak Ray at 3:00pm today for recording his confessional statement under section 164 in the case, said court sources.
Earlier on Monday, a DB team picked up the five JMB men from different spots in the port city and recovered 9 hand-made grenades, a pistol, ammunition and bomb-making materials from the ground floor of the five-storey Hazi Nur Ahmed Tower in Khowajnagar of Azimpur under Karnaphuli Police Station.
Of them, Javed was killed in a grenade explosion in Kuaish area on early Tuesday while DB was searching for grenades hided by Javedin the area.
