At least eight people were killed and 14 injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur and Madaripur today.
Four people were killed and six others injured as a covered van collided head-on with a human hauler in Gazipur Sadar this morning.
The road crash took place in Naojore area of Chowrasta intersection around 9:30am, a day after the deadly accident that killed eight people, including seven of a family, when a train rammed a three-wheeler in Bakkikhan area of the district.
Two of the deceased are driver Saidur Rahman, 24, his helper Manir Hossain, 26 and two passengers of the human hauler. Identities of the passengers could not be known immediately, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting Traffic Sergeant Bahar Alam, in-charge of Gazipur highway police.
The covered van was heading towards Gazipur from Tangail when the accident occurred, leaving three dead on the spot and six injured, the traffic official said.
The injured were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, where one more person was declared dead.
Three of the injured were sent to Dhaka as their condition deteriorated.
On information, cops rushed to the spot and seized the human hauler and the covered van.
At least four people were killed and eight others injured in a collision between a bus and a microbus in Melkai area of Tarash upazila in Madaripur today, reports UNB.
The deceased, who were traveling in the microbus, could not be identified immediately.
Emdadul Haque, officer in-charge of Kalkini Police Station, said the Barisal-bound bus collided with the Dhaka-bound microbus on Dhaka-Barisal highway around 1:00pm, leaving four people dead on the spot and eight others injured.
On information, police recovered the bodies.
The injured were admitted to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex.
Meanwhile, three people were killed and 20 injured in two separate road accidents in Mirzapur and Sadar upazila in Tangail last night and today.
A bicycle rider was killed when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus ran over him on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Darun area of Sadar upazila this morning.
The deceased was identified as Selim Miah, 26, of Darun village, Kamruzzaman Raj, a sub-inspector of Elenga highway police outpost, told The Daily Star.
Doctors declared Selim dead after he was rushed to Tangail Medical College Hospital, he added.
Earlier last night, two passengers were killed and 20 others injured when a Dhaka-bound bus from Gaibandha lost control and fell into a ditch at Sohagpara in Mirzapur around 11:30pm.
The deceased were identified as Shaharul Islam, 30, of Gaibandha and Rokonuzzaman, 25, of Nilphamari.
The wounded were admitted to the Kumudini Hospital and the bodies were handed over to the families after completion of legal procedures, Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Gorai highway police station, told The Daily Star.
