5 killed as truck hits auto-rickshaw in Comilla

--A pedestrian is among the deceased

--Injured undergoing treatment at hospital

Five people were killed and another was injured as a truck hits a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Laksam upazila of Comilla this morning.

Police identified the victims as Abul Kalam, 35, Mohsena Akter, 35, Jasimuddin, 30, Najrin Akter, 24, and Rojina Akter, 20.

Among the deceased, Kalam was a pedestrian, Jashimuddin was the driver of the auto-rickshaw and the rest were its passengers, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting Monwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Laksam Police Station.

The accident took place when a Noakhali-bound truck hit the auto-rickshaw at Fatehpur around 7:30am, killing Jashimuddin and two passengers on the spot.

The other two auto-rickshaw passengers and Kalam, who were injured during the accident, were whisked off to a local hospital but two of them died on the way.

Injured Raju Mia, 26, was undergoing treatment at the local hospital.
