7 Rangpur Shibir men jailed under explosives act
A Rangpur court today jailed seven activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, for 20 years for possessing crude bombs.
Five of the convicts were jailed in absentia, our Rangpur correspondent reports quoting Ainunnahar Papri, a public prosecutor.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Abujafar Md Kamruzzaman also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default, to serve one year more in prison, the public prosecutor said.
Two of the Shibir activists were arrested with locally made bombs at a student hostel in Lalbagh College Para of the city on March 18, 2013 while five of their companions managed to flee the scene.
Law enforcers filed the one case under Explosive Substances Act on the same day.
