10 Jamaat men including Sylhet city ameer held
Ten leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including its Sylhet city unit ameer were detained in the city last night.
Police picked up the city ameer Ahsanul Mahbub Jubayer and nine others when they were holding a secret meeting around 11:30pm in a mosque at Sabujbagh in the city, said Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Shahparan Police Station.
The Jamaat leaders were plotting subversive activities, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting the police official.
The police had received prior information that the Jamaat men were going to gather at the mosque after the Esha prayer, the OC added.
Jamaat men have taken shelter in Shibganj and Sabujbag area of the city to strengthen their political activities, the OC added.
The others detainees are: Abdul Al Monin, Abdus Sattar, Ahmad Al Masud, Mir Hossain, Joynal Abedin, Syed Delwar Hossain Jamil, Mahbub Ahmad, Morshed Alam and Ahmad Hossain.
