Allocate Tk 1000cr for climate action: TIB

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) today demanded allocation of Tk 1000 crore in the next budget to combat the impact of climate change.

Tk 700 crore per year was allotted to Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund (BCCTF) during the first three years, but the budget has not increased compared to the increasing climate change-related risks, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), said in a statement.

The decreased amount of funding against the increased risk of climate change is very concerning, he added.

So, to make up for the deficit in funds of BCCTF, he said urging the government to allocate Tk1000 crore for the fund in the next budget.

The body also demanded practical guidelines to ensure clarity and accountability in the spending of the funds.
