Arrest warrant for 28 men of BNP-led alliance
A Dhaka court today issued arrest warrant against 28 leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance including Rafiqul Islam Mia in a case filed for a crude bomb attack on a passenger bus in Mirpur area in January.
Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of Metropolitan Sessions Judges Court issued the arrest warrants after accepting the charges levelled against 42 BNP leaders and activists in the case.
The court directed the officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station to submit reports by July 7 on execution of arrest warrants.
On April 22, Mirpur police pressed charges against 42 leaders and activists of the alliance including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed and Mosaddak Ali Falu, in an arson case.
Fourteen BNP men, including Rizvi Ahmed and Mosaddek Ali Falu, adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, are now in jail while the others including Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas are absconding.
According to the case statement, the accused instigated the alliance men in torching a bus at the capital's Mirpur-1 on January 28 during their anti-government movement.
