10 injured in AL factional clash in Faridpur
At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of the ruling Awami League over establishing supremacy in Saltha upazila of Faridpur today.
The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and other local hospitals, our local correspondent reports.
According to locals, there had been a longstanding conflict between former chairman of Saltha upazila Md Ohidujjaman and AL activist Md Enayat Hossain over establishing supremacy in the area.
Earlier on Tuesday, Two supporters -- Md Nur Alom and Md Liton -- of Enayet, also son in-law of Bhawal union AL unit President Ohab Matubbar, locked into an altercation with Ohidujaman's cousin Sahin Molla at Yusufdia Bazar around 8:00pm.
As a sequel to that, the supporters of both factions clashed early in the morning today, leaving 10 people injured, the locals said. Later police brought the situation under control, they added.
Enayat Hossain said, "Sahin Mollah locked into an altercation with my supporters as they recently joined our group from their faction".
Denying the allegation, Ohidujjaman said, "Enayat's supporters attacked my cousin while he sat at Yusufdia Bazar. That's why the clash took place."
Mohammad Ali Jinnah, officer-in-charge of Saltha Police Station, said, "On information we rushed to the spot and bought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area. No one filed any case till 5:00pm."
