‘Bandit leader’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Khulna cops
Alleged chief of a forest bandit racket of the Sundarbans was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Koyra upazila of Khulna last night.
The victim was identified as Al-Amin Hossain, son of Shahid Sana from Koyra and chief of a gang named after him, reports our Khulna correspondent quoting TM Rokonuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of district Detective Branch (DB).
Al-Amin was held from Chandkhali area in a joint crackdown conducted by detectives and local police around 10:15pm, Rokonuzzaman said.
Later, police accompanied him and launched another crackdown in Jhpjopiar area based on the information grilled out from Al-Amin, he added. “Sensing presence of police, his cohorts opened gunfire. Law enforcers were compelled to fire back.”
After an hour of fight, Al-Amin was found dead and the others managed to flee, Rokonuzzaman said. Seven firearms and 141 bullets were found from the spot.
The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy, Horendranath Sarkar, OC of Koyra Police Station said.
