2 killed in Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfights’
Two alleged criminals were killed in separate incidents of what law enforcers claimed to be gunfights at Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar early today.
In Dhaka, Ramjan, an accused in a murder case, was killed during a gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Beraid area of Badda, our staff correspondent reports quoting Rafikul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda Police Station.
The “gunfight” took place around 3:00am. Ramjan was an accused in the murder case filed for the killing of one Farhad, the OC said.
In Cox’s Bazar, an alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Teknaf upazila, reports UNB.
The deceased, identified as Salim Ullah, 36, was wanted in several cases including those of drugs.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-15 conducted a drive at Jhaubagan area around 4:00am.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, the group of “drug dealers” operating there fired at them, prompting the Rab officials to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.
After the gunfight, Rab recovered the body of Salim, two firearms, 10,000 yaba pills and seven bullets from the spot.
Two Rab members were also injured in the gunfight.
