HC summons IOs of 2 militancy cases
The High Court today summoned the investigation officers of two separate militancy cases directing them to appear before it on May 30 for explaining delay in completing probes and their latest status.
The cases were filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over the anti-militant raids in Mirpur’s Darus Salam area and Banani last year.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order during hearing the bail petitions of two accused of the cases.The investigation officers have to appear before the HC along with the relevant documents of the cases.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told The Daily Star that seven people were killed in an incident of bomb explosion in a militant den at Darus Salam area in Dhaka’s Mirpur on September 5 last year.
Police filed a case with Darus Salam Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009 in connection with the incident. Police arrested Nazrul Islam Shamim, an alleged militant, in this case, he said.
Another case was filed with Banani Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009 after the police recovered militancy related books from a house at Bananion July 30 last year, DAG Amin Uddin said, adding that police also arrested RiasatElahi Chowdhury, an alleged militant, in this case.
During hearing the bail petitions filed by Nazrul and Riasattoday, the HC judges found that the investigation of the cases against them were not completed yet although the probes were supposed to be finished in 180 days after the cases were filed, he added.
