Import-export thru’ Benapole port suspended for 5 days
The export-import operations through Benapole Land Port in Jessore remained suspended for five days due to an indefinite strike in the Indian side.
The strike enforced by Indian port users began Thursday morning protesting “car-pass” system, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Kartrik Chakrabarty, General Secretary of Petropole C&F Agents Staff Welfare Association of India.
Nearly 10,000 goods laden trucks got stranded at Petrapole Port in the Indian side, sources at the Benapole Port said.
Bangladesh government lost of Tk 48 crore revenue collections due to this strike, they said.
Aminul Islam, director of Benapole Port Authority, said that import-export through the port remained suspended for last five days, but loading, unloading and delivery of goods at the port was normal.
