Cops take measures for safe, hassle-free journey of Eid holidaymakers
Police have taken different measures to ensure safety on roads and hassle-free journey for holidaymakers ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.
The decisions were taken during a meeting between the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary and transport owners and workers’ leaders at the Police Headquarters today.
The meeting was held over the plying of vehicles on roads and highways with safety measures on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of police (media and PR), told The Daily Star.
It was decided at the meeting that adequate policemen will be deployed at entry and exit point of every terminal and also on the roads and highways to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
Police will check the licences of drivers and fitness of vehicles before the buses begin their journey from the terminals. The organisations of transport owners and workers will help the law enforcers to this effect.
Speed of vehicles plying on the roads and highways will be monitored.
Operation of mobile courts will remain in effect while transport owners’ bodies will install closed circuit (CC) cameras at the bus terminals.
The transport owners and workers were also directed to comply with the traffic rules and regulations, including not plying vehicles without fitness, route permits, driving licence, avoiding competition with other vehicles on the road, among others.
