Some 70 locomotives will be procured from Switzerland to improve Bangladesh Railway services.

To import the locomotives, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has almost been completed for signing by the two sides.

Outgoing Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh Christian Fotsch informed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about it when he paid a courtesy call on her at her office in Dhaka today.

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

The Ambassador said a Swiss company is also likely to export Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Bangladesh and a MoU is also expected to be signed in this regard.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister sought Swiss investment in Bangladesh's various sectors for the mutual benefits taking the attractive advantages offered by her government.

Hasina said measures have been taken to establish economic zones where the investors can build their industries, while the government also established connectivity with neighbours considering the huge market in the region.

About the import of locomotives from Switzerland, she mentioned the cooperation with Switzerland in the railway sector saying Bangladesh needs to further improve the railway communication.

She also stressed exchanging more high-level visits between Bangladesh and Switzerland to further expand cooperation between the two countries.
