A Bangladeshi has been identified among 107 victims, who died in Mecca crane collapse on Friday.

Deceased Abul Kashem hailed from Karnaphuli area of Chittagong, Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Moshi told The Daily Star today.

The officials of the Bangladesh mission in Saudi Arabia around 2:00am (Saudi local time) identified the body of Kashem kept at the mortuary of a local hospital, the ambassador said.

A crane collapsed in the Muslim holy city of Mecca, killing at least 107 people on Friday. The crane crashed into the Grand Mosque as it was full of worshippers, almost two weeks before the Hajj pilgrimage.

Parts of the Mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites, remained sealed off soon after the incident, which also injured around 238 people.

Officials say strong winds and heavy rains caused the crane to fall, according to BBC.

Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims had already arrived in Mecca for the annual pilgrimage expected to start on September 21.
